Muhammad b. ‘Abd al-A’la told me this: Mu’tamir narrated to us that his father told him, who heard it from Anas, that the Prophet of Allah (may peace be upon him) said. This hadith is the same as the one transmitted by Qatada on the authority of Anas.

Hadith No: 397 Narrated/Authority of Abdullah bin Amr bin Al Aas
The Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him) recited the words of Allah, the Great and Glorious, that Ibrahim said. Ibrahim said, “My Lord! They have led many people astray. But whoever follows me is with me.” (al-Qur’an, xiv. 35) Jesus (peace be upon him) said, “If you punish them, they are your slaves. And if you forgive them, you are the Mighty, the Wise.” (al-Qur’an, v 117) Then he raised his hands and said, “O Lord, my Ummah, my Ummah,” and cried. So Allah the High and the Exalted said, “O Gabriel, go to Muhammad and ask him: Why are you crying?” Gabriel (peace be upon him) went to him and asked, and the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) told him what he had said. Allah said, “O Gabriel, go to Muhammad and say: We will please you regarding your Ummah and not displease you.”
Hadith No: 398 Narrated/Authority of Anas
Someone asked the Messenger of Allah, “Where is my father?” The Messenger of Allah replied, “He is in the Fire.” After the person turned away, the Holy Prophet called him and said, “Both my father and your father are in the Fire.”

When this verse was revealed, the Messenger of Allah called the Quraish. He gave them a general warning and then made a particular reference to certain tribes. He said: “O sons of Ka’b b. Luwayy, rescue yourselves from the Fire. O sons of Murra b. Ka’b, rescue yourselves from the Fire. O sons of Abd Shams, rescue yourselves from the Fire. O sons of Abd Manaf, rescue yourselves from the Fire. O sons of Hashim, rescue yourselves from the Fire. O sons of Abd al-Muttalib, rescue yourselves from the Fire. O Fatimah, rescue yourself from the Fire, for I have no power to protect you from Allah in anything except to maintain a relationship with you.”

Ubaiduallah b. Umar al-Qawariri narrated the same hadith to Abu ‘Uwana. Abu ‘Uwana then transmitted it to ‘Abd al-Malik b. ‘Umair. The hadith of Jarir is more complete and thorough.
