Hadith No: 184 Narrated/Authority of Abdullah bin Masud
The Holy Prophet (saw) said, “Anyone who beats their cheeks, tears their shirt, or speaks the slogans of Jahiliya is not part of our Ummah of Islam.” Ibn Numair and Abu Bakr said that instead of using “au” (or), we should use “wa” (and). Also, we don’t need to include the letter “alif” when saying “tore” and “uttered” the slogans of Jahiliya.
Hadith No: 185 Narrated/Authority of
This hadith has been narrated by A’mash with the same chain of narrators and the transmitters said: He tore and called.
Hadith No: 186 Narrated/Authority of Abu Burda bin Abu Musa
Abu Musa was in great pain and passed out. His head was on a lady’s lap in his house. One of the women in his house cried. Abu Musa was too weak to say anything to her. When he felt a little better, he said: I don’t care about someone who the Messenger of Allah doesn’t care about. The Messenger of Allah doesn’t care about a woman who cries loudly, shaves her hair, and tears her clothes in grief.
Hadith No: 187 Narrated/Authority of Abu Burda
Abu Musa passed out. His wife Umm Abdullah arrived and cried loudly. When he felt better, he told her: “Do you not know? The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: I don’t care about someone who shaves her head, cries loudly, and tears her clothes in grief.”

Hadith No: 192 Narrated/Authority of Abu Dharr
It is narrated o the authority of Abu Dharr that the Messenger of Allah (may ace he upon him) observed: Three are the (persons) with whom Allah would neither speak on the Day of Resurrection, nor would look at them nor would absolve the and there is a painful chastisement for them. The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) repeated it three times. Abu Dharr remarked: They failed and they lost; who are these persons, Messenger of Allah? Upon this he (the Holy) Prophet) observed: They are: the dragger of lower garment, the recounter of obligation the seller of goods by false oath.
Hadith No: 193 Narrated/Authority of Abu Dharr
The Prophet (may peace be upon him) said that Allah will not speak to three people on the Day of Resurrection. These are the people who only give gifts when they expect something in return, those who sell things by lying, and those who let their lower garments hang low.
Hadith No: 194 Narrated/Authority of
Bishr b. Khalid has narrated this hadith on the authority of Sulaiman with the same chain of transmitters with this addition: Allah shall neither speak nor look at nor absolve then, and there is a tormenting punishment for them.
Hadith No: 195 Narrated/Authority of Abu Huraira
The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said that there are three people whom Allah will not speak to or forgive on the Day of Resurrection. He will not even look at them. They will face severe punishment. These three people are: an old person who commits adultery, a king who lies, and a poor person who is proud.
Hadith No: 196 Narrated/Authority of
Abu Huraira narrated on the authority of Abu Bakr that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: Three are the persons with whom Allah would neither speak on the Day of Resurrection, nor would He look towards them, nor would purify them (from sins), and there would be a tormenting chastisement for them: a person who in the waterless desert has more water (than his need) and he refuses to give it to the traveller and a person who sold a commodity to another person in the afternoon and took an oath of Allah that he had bought it at such and such price and he (the buyer) accepted it to be true though it was not a fact, and a person who pledged allegiance to the Imam but for the sake of the world (material gains). And if the Imam bestowed on him (something) out of that (worldly riches) he stood by his allegiance and if he did not give him, he did not fulfil the allegiance.
Hadith No: 197 Narrated/Authority of
The same hadith has been transmitted by another chain of transmitters with the exception of these words: He offered for sale a commodity to another person.
Hadith No: 198 Narrated/Authority of Abu Huraira
The Apostle of Allah said that there are three people whom Allah will not speak to or look at on the Day of Resurrection. These people will receive a painful punishment. The first person is someone who swears on a Muslim’s belongings in the afternoon and then breaks the oath. The rest of the hadith is the same as what A’mash narrated.
Hadith No: 199 Narrated/Authority of Abu Huraira
The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said that if someone kills themselves with a weapon, they will go to the Fire of Hell. They will have that weapon in their hand and keep thrusting it into their stomach forever. If someone drinks poison and kills themselves, they will sip that poison in the Fire of Hell where they will be doomed forever. And if someone kills themselves by falling from a mountain, they will constantly fall in the Fire of Hell and live there forever.
Hadith No: 200 Narrated/Authority of
This hadith has been narrated by another chain of transmitters.
Hadith No: 201 Narrated/Authority of Thabit bin Dahhak
He reported that he pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah under the Tree. The Messenger of Allah observed that if someone takes an oath of a religion other than Islam while being a liar, they would become a liar as they professed. If someone kills themselves with something, they will be tormented on the Day of Resurrection with that same thing. One is not obligated to offer a votive offering of something they don’t possess.
Hadith No: 202 Narrated/Authority of Thabit bin Dahhak
The Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him) said that no one is required to give a votive offering if they don’t have it. Cursing a believer is like killing them. If someone kills themselves with something in this world, they will be tormented with that same thing on the Day of Resurrection. If someone makes a false claim to increase their wealth, Allah will not increase it but will instead make it less. And if someone perjures themselves, they will earn the wrath of God.
Hadith No: 203 Narrated/Authority of Thabit bin Dahhak
The Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him) said that anyone who intentionally takes a false oath on a religion other than Islam will become what they claimed. And anyone who kills themselves will be tormented by Allah in the Fire of Hell.
Hadith No: 204 Narrated/Authority of
In the hadith narrated by Shu’ba, the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said, “If someone takes an oath on a religion other than Islam, they are lying. And if someone kills themselves with something, they will be killed with that on the Day of Resurrection.”
Hadith No: 205 Narrated/Authority of Abu Huraira
We fought in the Battle of Hunain with the Messenger of Allah. He said that a man who claimed to be a Muslim was actually going to Hell. During the battle, that man fought hard and got hurt. When someone told the Messenger of Allah that the man had died, the Messenger said he was definitely going to Hell. Some people started to doubt this when they heard that the man was only badly hurt, not dead. But that night, the man couldn’t handle the pain anymore and killed himself. The Messenger was told about this and he said, “Allah is Great. I am Allah’s servant and messenger.” Then he told Bilal to tell everyone that only Muslims can go to Paradise. Allah even helps this faith with a sinful person.
Hadith No: 206 Narrated/Authority of Sahl bin Saad Al-Saidi
There was a fight between the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) and the polytheists. After the battle, the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) went back to his army and the enemies went back to their army. Among the companions of the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) was a person named Quzman who was a hypocrite. He killed every enemy fighter he found. The companions said that no one served them better than Quzman. The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said that Quzman is going to hell. One of the Muslims said that he will follow Quzman. He followed him wherever he went. Quzman was badly injured. He couldn’t bear the pain and killed himself. The man who was following Quzman went to the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) and told him what happened. The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said that sometimes people do good things that seem like they are going to heaven, but they are actually going to hell. And sometimes people do bad things that seem like they are going to hell, but they are actually going to heaven.
Hadith No: 207 Narrated/Authority of Hasan
A person from the past had a boil. It hurt him. So, he took an arrow from his quiver and stuck it in the boil. The bleeding didn’t stop until he died. Your Lord said: I didn’t let him go to Paradise. Then Hasan pointed to the mosque and said: Jundab told me this hadith from the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) in this mosque.
Hadith No: 208 Narrated/Authority of Hasan
Jundab b. Abdullah al-Bajali told this hadith in this mosque. We can’t forget it, and we also don’t think Jundab would lie about what the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said. The Holy Prophet said that someone in the past had a boil, and then the rest of the hadith was told.
Hadith No: 209 Narrated/Authority of Umar bin Al-Khattab
When it was the day of Khaibar, a group of Companions of the Apostle (may peace be upon him) went there. They said that so and so is a martyr. But then they passed by a man and said that so and so is a martyr. The Messenger of Allah said that it was not true. He had seen the man in the Fire because he had stolen a garment from the booty. Then the Messenger of Allah said to Umar son of Khattab to announce that only believers will enter Paradise. Umar son of Khattab went out and proclaimed that only believers will enter Paradise.
Hadith No: 210 Narrated/Authority of Abu Huraira
We went to Khaibar with the Apostle and Allah gave us victory. We took goods, corn, and clothes, not gold or silver. Then we went to a valley with the Messenger of Allah. A slave who was given to him by Rifa’a b. Zaid of the Judham tribe was with us. When we got to the valley, the Messenger of Allah’s slave unpacked the saddle-bag. Suddenly, he was hit by an arrow and died. We said he was a martyr and greeted him. But the Messenger of Allah said no. He said the small garment the slave stole from the booty at Khaibar is burning like the Fire of Hell on him. This troubled the people greatly. Someone came with a lace or two laces and said they found them at Khaibar. The Holy Prophet said they were a lace of fire or two laces of fire.
Hadith No: 211 Narrated/Authority of Jabir
Tufail, the son of Amr al-Dausi, approached the Apostle (peace be upon him) and asked if he needed strong protection. The tribe of Daus had a fort in the past. The Apostle (peace be upon him) declined the offer because protecting the Holy Prophet had already been reserved for the Ansar. When the Apostle (peace be upon him) moved to Medina, Tufail also moved there along with another man from his tribe. However, Tufail became sick because he couldn’t adapt to the climate in Medina. He was very uncomfortable. So, he took an iron arrowhead and cut his finger-joints, causing his hands to bleed until he died. Tufail saw the man who died in a dream. He looked good and his hands were wrapped. Tufail asked him how Allah treated him. The man replied that Allah forgave him for migrating to the Apostle (peace be upon him). Tufail asked why the man’s hands were wrapped. The man said that Allah wouldn’t fix anything that he damaged himself. Tufail told the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) about this dream. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) then prayed for Allah to forgive even the man’s hands.
Hadith No: 212 Narrated/Authority of Abu Huraira
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said that Allah will make a gentle wind blow from Yemen. This wind will be softer than silk. It will cause anyone who doesn’t have faith equal to the weight of a grain to die.
Hadith No: 213 Narrated/Authority of Abu Huraira
The Messenger of Allah said that we should do good deeds quickly because a difficult time will come, like a dark night. In that time, a person could be a Muslim in the morning and an unbeliever in the evening, or they could be a believer in the evening and an unbeliever in the morning. They might give up their faith for worldly things.
Hadith No: 214 Narrated/Authority of Anas bin Malik
When the verse “O ye who believe! raise not your voices above the voice of the Prophet, nor shout loud unto him in discourse, as ye shout loud unto one another, lest your deeds should become null and void, while you perceive not” (49:2-5) was revealed, Thabit bin Qais stayed in his house and said: I am going to hell. He intentionally avoided coming to the Apostle. The Apostle asked Sad bin Muadh about him and said, Abu Amr, how is Thabit? Is he sick? Sad said: He is my neighbor, but I don’t know if he’s sick. Sad went to Thabit and delivered the message from the Messenger of Allah. Thabit said: This verse was revealed, and you know that my voice is louder than the Messenger of Allah’s voice. So I am going to hell. Sad told the Holy Prophet about it. The Messenger of Allah said: No, he is one of the people going to paradise.
Hadith No: 215 Narrated/Authority of Anas bin Malik
Thabit b. Qais was the orator of the Ansar. When this verse was revealed, the rest of the hadith is the same except there is no mention of Sa’d b. Mu’adh in it. Ahmad b. Sa’id, Habban, Sulaiman b. Mughira also transmitted this hadith. It is on the authority of Anas who said that when the verse was revealed, no mention was made of Sa’d b. Mu’adh in it.
Hadith No: 216 Narrated/Authority of Anas
Another chain of transmitters picked up the message. This chain doesn’t mention Sa’d b. Mu’adh. But it does mention these words: “We saw a man walking among us. He is one of the people who live in Paradise.”
Hadith No: 217 Narrated/Authority of Abdullah bin Masud
Some people asked the Messenger of Allah, “Will we be accountable for our actions before we became Muslims?” The Holy Prophet replied, “If you did good deeds after becoming Muslim, you won’t be held accountable for the bad deeds you did before. But if you continue to do bad deeds after becoming Muslim, you will be held accountable for all the bad deeds you did before and after.”
Hadith No: 218 Narrated/Authority of Abdullah bin Masud
We asked the Messenger of Allah if we would be responsible for our actions when we didn’t know any better. The Holy Prophet said that if we did good things when we were Muslim, we wouldn’t be responsible for what we did before. But if we did bad things after becoming Muslim, we would be responsible for everything we did before and after.
Hadith No: 219 Narrated/Authority of
Minjab b. al-Harith Tamimi transmitted this hadith with the same chain of transmitters.
Hadith No: 220 Narrated/Authority of Ibn Shamasa Mahri
He said, “We went to Amr b. al-As and he was about to die.” He wept for a long time and turned his face towards the wall. His son asked him, “Did the Messenger of Allah not tell you about this?” He turned his face towards the audience and said, “The best thing we can trust is the testimony that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Apostle of Allah. I have gone through three phases. In the first phase, I disliked the Messenger of Allah the most and my strongest desire was to overpower him and kill him. If I had died in this state, I would have definitely gone to Hell. When Allah put love for Islam in my heart, I went to the Apostle and said, “Stretch out your right hand so that I can pledge my allegiance to you.” He stretched out his right hand, but I withdrew mine. The Holy Prophet asked, “What happened, O ‘Amr?” I replied, “I want to lay down a condition.” He asked, “What condition?” I said, “I should be granted pardon.” The Holy Prophet said, “Don’t you know that Islam erases all previous misdeeds? Migration and pilgrimage also erase previous misdeeds. After that, no one was more beloved and sublime to me than the Messenger of Allah. I never had the courage to look at his face fully because it was so splendid. So I cannot describe his features. If I had died in this state, I had every reason to hope that I would have been among the dwellers of Paradise. Then we were responsible for certain things, and I am not sure what awaits me. When I die, do not let any women mourn or set fire to accompany me. When you bury me, fill my grave well with earth and stand around it for the time it takes to slaughter and distribute a camel, so that I can enjoy your company and figure out how to answer the messengers of Allah.”
Hadith No: 221 Narrated/Authority of Ibn Abbas
Some polytheists had committed many murders and engaged in excessive fornication. They approached Muhammad (may peace be upon him) and said that his teachings were good. However, they wanted to know if there was a way to atone for their past actions, so they could embrace Islam. Then, it was revealed that those who do not worship other gods besides Allah, do not kill except in the cause of justice, and do not commit fornication will face punishment for their sins. On the Day of Resurrection, they will endure even more torment and will be disgraced, unless they repent, believe, and do good deeds. For them, Allah will transform their vices into virtues. Allah is always forgiving and merciful. So, do not despair, O my fellow humans who have been extravagant in your actions. Allah will forgive your sins completely. He is truly forgiving and merciful.
Hadith No: 222 Narrated/Authority of
Hakim b. Hizam told ‘Urwa b. Zubair that he asked the Messenger of Allah: Do you think I will be rewarded for the religious purification I did when I was ignorant? The Messenger of Allah replied: When you accepted Islam, you brought all the previous virtues you practiced with you.
Hadith No: 223 Narrated/Authority of
Hakim b. Hizam told ‘Urwa b. Zubair that he asked the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) a question. He said, “Messenger of Allah, will I be rewarded for the religious purification acts I did before I became a Muslim? Acts like giving charity, freeing slaves, and maintaining family relationships?” The Messenger of Allah replied, “When you embraced Islam, all the good deeds you did in the past were accepted.”
Hadith No: 224 Narrated/Authority of Hakim bin Hizam
I said to the Messenger of Allah, “I did some deeds when I didn’t know any better.” (Hisham b. Urwa said they were acts of piety.) The Messenger of Allah said, “When you embraced Islam, you also embraced all the good things you did before.” I said, “I promise to do even more good things in Islam than I did before.”
Hadith No: 225 Narrated/Authority of
Hisham’s father, Hakim b. Hizam, freed 100 slaves and donated 100 camels before he became a Muslim. After embracing Islam, he freed another 100 slaves and donated 100 camels. He then went to the Apostle (may peace be upon him). The rest of the hadith is the same as above.
Hadith No: 226 Narrated/Authority of Abdullah bin Masud
The Companions of the Messenger of Allah were greatly disturbed when they heard this verse: “It is those who believe and confound not their belief with wrongdoing” (vi. 82). They wondered, who among us is fortunate enough to never do wrong? The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) then explained that the verse does not mean what they assumed. Instead, it means what Luqman said to his son: “O my son, do not associate anything with Allah, for indeed it is the gravest wrongdoing” (xxxi. 13).
Hadith No: 227 Narrated/Authority of
Ishaq b. Ibrahim narrated this hadith. Ibn Idris says that his father transmitted it from Aban b. Taghlib, who heard it from A’mash. Then I also heard it from A’mash.
Hadith No: 228 Narrated/Authority of Abu Huraira
When the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) was informed of this revelation: Allah owns everything in the heavens and on earth. Whether you reveal or conceal what is in your mind, Allah will hold you accountable for it. Then He forgives whom He wants and punishes whom He wants. Allah has power over everything.” (ii. 284). The Companions of the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) found this command difficult and they went to the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) and sat down in front of him. They said: Messenger of Allah, we were given duties that we were capable of doing, such as prayer, fasting, struggling in the cause of Allah, and charity. But now, this verse has been revealed to you and it is beyond our ability to fulfill it. The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) asked them: Are you trying to say what the Jews and Christians said before you: “We hear and disobey”? Instead, you should say: “We hear and we obey. We seek Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is our return.” And they said: “We hear and we obey. We seek Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is our return.” When the people recited this and it flowed smoothly on their tongues, Allah immediately revealed: “The Apostle believes in what is sent down to him from his Lord, and so do the believers. Each one believes in Allah, His Angels, His Books, and His Apostles. They say: We do not differentiate between any of His Apostles. We hear and we obey. We seek Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is our return” (ii. 285). When they did that, Allah abrogated this verse and the Great, Majestic Allah revealed: “Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity. It receives the good that it earns and suffers the evil that it earns. Our Lord, do not punish us if we forget or make a mistake.” (The Prophet said:) Yes, our Lord! Do not burden us as You burdened those before us. (The Prophet said:) Yes, our Lord, do not impose on us burdens that we cannot bear. (The Prophet said:) Yes, and pardon us, grant us protection, and have mercy on us. You are our Protector, so grant us victory over the disbelievers” (ii. 286). He (the Lord) said: Yes.
Hadith No: 229 Narrated/Authority of Ibn Abbas
When the verse “Whether you speak your mind or keep it hidden, Allah will judge you based on it” (ii 284) was heard, they felt a fear they had never felt before. The Prophet (may peace be upon him) said: Say, “We have heard, obeyed, and submitted ourselves.” The reporter said: Allah put faith in their hearts and revealed this verse: “Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity. It receives the good it earns and suffers the consequences of its actions. Our Lord, do not hold us accountable if we forget or make a mistake.” The Lord said: I did it. Our Lord! Do not burden us as You have burdened those before us. The Lord said: I did it. Forgive us, show us mercy. You are our Protector” (ii. 286). He said: I did it.
Hadith No: 230 Narrated/Authority of Abu Huraira
The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said that Allah forgave his people for their bad thoughts as long as they didn’t talk about them or act on them.
