From Hadith No 41 to 70

Hadith No: 41 Narrated/Authority of Abu Huraira

We were with the Apostle during a march to Tabuk. The narrator said, “The people’s provisions were almost gone.” He said, “The situation was so critical that the army decided to slaughter some of their camels.” Umar said, “Messenger of Allah, I want you to gather what is left of the provisions and ask Allah to bless it.” The Holy Prophet did as Umar suggested. The people who had wheat brought wheat, those who had dates brought dates, and Mujahid said some people even brought stone dates. I asked, “What did they do with the stone dates?” They said, “They sucked on them and drank water over them.” The Holy Prophet blessed the provisions. There was a miraculous increase in the stocks, and the people fully replenished their provisions. At that time, the Holy Prophet said, “I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I am His messenger. Anyone who meets Allah without doubting these two fundamentals will enter heaven.”

Hadith No: 42 Narrated/Authority of Abu Huraira

This hadith is narrated by either Abu Huraira or Abu Sa’id Khudri. The narrator A’mash has some doubt about the name of the first narrator who directly spoke with the Holy Prophet. It could be either Abu Huraira or Abu Sa’id Khudri. Both are reliable transmitters of traditions. During the Tabuk expedition, the army ran out of provisions and suffered from starvation. They asked the Messenger of Allah for permission to slaughter their camels and eat them. The Messenger of Allah said they could do as they pleased. Then ‘Umar came and advised the Messenger of Allah not to allow the slaughter of camels because it would reduce the number of riding animals. ‘Umar suggested summoning the men along with the provisions they had left. He also suggested invoking Allah’s blessings on the provisions. The Messenger of Allah agreed. A leather mat was used as a table cloth and people brought their remaining portions of provisions. Some had handfuls of grain, others had dates, and some had bread. These small quantities were collected on the table cloth. Then the Messenger of Allah invoked blessings on them and told the people to fill their utensils with the provisions. Everyone in the army, which consisted of 30,000 people, filled their vessels to the brim. No one was left with an empty vessel. They ate to their fill and there was still leftovers. The Messenger of Allah remarked that anyone who meets their Lord without doubting the truth of Allah and his messenger will not be kept away from Paradise.

Hadith No: 43 Narrated/Authority of Ubada bin As-Samit

The messenger of Allah said, “If someone says: ‘There is only one God, and Muhammad is His servant and messenger, and Christ is the servant and son of Mary, and Christ is the word of God and His Spirit, and Paradise and Hell are real,’ then Allah will let that person enter Paradise through any of its eight doors.”

Hadith No: 44 Narrated/Authority of Umar bin Hani

Allah will allow the person who believes in these truths to enter Paradise through any of the eight doors they choose. The transmitters are the same, except for these words.

Hadith No: 45 Narrated/Authority of Sunabihi

He went to Ubada b. Samit when he was about to die. I started crying. He told me to give him some time to talk. He asked why I was crying. He said that if he was asked, he would testify that I am a believer. He said that if he was asked to intercede, he would intercede for me. He said that if he had the power, he would do good to me. He said that he never heard anything from the Messenger of Allah that could benefit me except for this hadith. He said he wants to tell me this hadith today because he is going to die soon. He heard the Messenger of Allah say that if someone testifies that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah, Allah will stop them from going to Hell.

Hadith No: 46 Narrated/Authority of Muadh bin Jabal

I was riding behind the Prophet. There was nothing between him and me except the back of the saddle. He said, “Mu’adh b. Jabal.” I replied, “At your beck and call, Messenger of Allah!” We moved along for a few minutes. Then he said, “Mu’adh b. Jabal.” I replied, “At your beck and call, Messenger of Allah!” We moved along for a few more minutes. He said, “Mu’adh b. Jabal.” I replied, “At your beck and call, Messenger of Allah!” The Prophet asked, “Do you know what right Allah has over his servants?” I said, “Allah and his Messenger know best.” He said, “The right of Allah over his servants is that they should worship him alone, without associating anything with him.” We continued riding for a few more minutes. The Prophet said, “Mu’adh b. Jabal.” I replied, “At your beck and call, Messenger of Allah!” He asked, “Do you know what rights servants have upon Allah if they worship him without associating anything with him?” I replied, “Allah and his Messenger know best.” The Prophet said, “That he will not torment them with the fire of Hell.”

Hadith No: 47 Narrated/Authority of Muadh bin Jabal

I saw this: I was riding behind the Messenger of Allah on a donkey named ‘Ufair. He said to me: “Mu’adh, do you know what Allah expects from his people and what his people can expect from him?” I replied: “Allah and his Messenger know best.” Then the Holy Prophet said: “Allah expects his people to worship only him and not worship anything else. And his people can expect that he won’t punish them if they don’t worship anything else.” I asked the Messenger of Allah: “Should I tell the people about this?” He said: “No, don’t tell them just this. They might only rely on it.”

Hadith No: 48 Narrated/Authority of Muadh bin Jabal

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said to Mu’adh, “Do you know the right that Allah has over His people?” Mu’adh replied, “Allah and His Apostle know best.” The Messenger of Allah said, “The right is that Allah alone should be worshipped and nothing should be associated with Him.” Then he asked, “What right do the people have in case they do associate partners with Allah?” Mu’adh replied, “Allah and His Apostle know best.” The Holy Prophet then said, “The people will not be punished for it.”

Hadith No: 49 Narrated/Authority of Aswad bin Hilal

Mu’adh said that he heard this: The Messenger of Allah called me and I replied. The Holy Prophet asked me if I knew Allah’s right upon people. Then he mentioned the hadith.

Hadith No: 50 Narrated/Authority of Abu Huraira

We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). Abu Bakr and Umar were also there. Suddenly, the Messenger of Allah got up and left us. He took longer than expected to return, which made us worried that he might be attacked by enemies while we were not with him. We were alarmed, so we got up. I was the first to be alarmed, so I went out to look for the Messenger of Allah. I came to a garden owned by the Banu an-Najjar, a group of the Ansar. I searched for a gate but couldn’t find one. Then, I saw a stream flowing into the garden from a well outside. I sneaked into the place where the Messenger of Allah was, like a fox. He asked if I was Abu Huraira, and I confirmed. He asked what was wrong, so I explained that he had left us and we were worried about his safety. I was the first to be alarmed. When I came to this garden, I sneaked in like a fox, and these people are following me. He called me Abu Huraira and gave me his sandals. He told me to take them and, when I meet someone outside the garden who believes in their heart that there is only one god, Allah, I should tell them that they will go to Paradise. The first person I met was Umar. He asked about the sandals, and I explained that they were the Messenger of Allah’s sandals, and he sent me to tell anyone who believes in their heart that there is only one god, Allah, that they will go to Paradise. Umar hit me on the chest, and I fell down. He told me to go back, so I returned to the Messenger of Allah. I was about to cry, and Umar was following me closely. The Messenger of Allah asked what was wrong, and I told him that I met Umar and delivered his message. Umar hit me, and he told me to go back. Hearing this, the Messenger of Allah asked Umar why he did that. Umar explained that he was worried people would rely solely on the sandals for salvation and not do good deeds. The Messenger of Allah said, “Let them.”

Hadith No: 51 Narrated/Authority of Anas bin Malik

The Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) spoke to Mu’adh b. Jabal while he was riding behind him. Mu’adh replied, “I am here for you, Messenger of Allah.” The Prophet called out to Mu’adh again, and Mu’adh replied the same. The Prophet addressed Mu’adh once more, and Mu’adh replied again. The Prophet then said, “If anyone sincerely believes that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is His messenger, Allah will protect them from Hell.” Mu’adh asked, “Shouldn’t I tell people about this so they can be happy?” The Prophet replied, “No, because then they would rely on it alone.” Mu’adh shared this information before he died, so he wouldn’t sin.

Hadith No: 52 Narrated/Authority of Itban bin Malik

He came to Medina and said, “Something is wrong with my eyesight.” So, I sent a message to the Holy Prophet, asking him to come to my house and pray there, making that corner a place of worship. The Prophet came, accompanied by some of his Companions. He entered my place and prayed at my house, while his Companions talked among themselves about hypocrites. They focused on Malik b. Dukhshum and wished for him to be cursed or face some calamity. After completing his prayer, the Messenger of Allah asked, “Does Malik b. Dukhshum not believe that there is only one god, Allah, and that I am His messenger?” They replied, “He claims to believe, but not sincerely.” The Holy Prophet said, “Anyone who believes in Allah as the only god and in me as His messenger will not go to Hell or be consumed by its flames.” Anas was deeply impressed by this hadith and asked his son to write it down.

Hadith No: 60 Narrated/Authority of Qatada

We were sitting with ‘Imran b. Husain in a company. Bushair ibn Ka’b was also there with us. ‘Imran told us that the Messenger of Allah said: Modesty is a complete virtue. Bushair ibn Ka’b said: Some books say that it is a peaceful state of mind inspired by God, but it also has its weaknesses. ‘Imran got very angry and his eyes turned red. He said: I am telling you what the Messenger of Allah said, and you are contradicting it. ‘Imran repeated the hadith. Bushair repeated his statement. ‘Imran was very angry. We said: Bushair is one of us. There is nothing wrong with him.

Lastly, they should fear returning to disbelief as much as they fear being thrown into Hell.

Hadith No: 68 Narrated/Authority of Anas

The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said that there are three qualities that will make someone enjoy the taste of faith: loving others only for Allah’s sake, holding Allah and His Messenger in higher regard than anything else, and being willing to be thrown into fire rather than returning to unbelief after being saved by Allah.
